![]() No wonder it’s a favorite with broadcasters and voiceover artists. ![]() With its excellent sensitivity, it can pick up very small nuances and character in a speaker’s voice. The clarity and tone of the Røde NT USB is exceptional. It also works well when used for video chats or VOIP applications but is probably less suitable for picking up a group talk for a podcast or for two people sharing a mic. It’s an ideal mic for a newsreader or someone recording an audiobook. ![]() This is definitely a “side addressed” mic for recording close speaking as well as vocals and music. The condenser mic in the Rode NT USB has a cardioid polar pickup pattern and there are no other patterns on offer as with other USB mics like the AKG Lyra or the Blue Yeti X. It's handy to have an accessible way to instantly turn the mic off quickly. Interestingly, there’s no mute button on the NT USB which I like to have for when you are talking and need to cough or clear your throat. ![]() The gain level can be adjusted using the sound preference settings on the computer. The microphone gain level is set automatically by the host computer so there’s no gain dial on the mic. The Røde NY USB is supplied with a tripod stand and a pop shield.
